Koeman says Barca are feeling confident ahead of PSG tie
The Dutch coach says the tie is “evenly matched”
Ronald Koeman says his Barcelona team are feeling confident ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain at the Camp Nou.
The Catalans warmed up for the game with a 5-1 win over Alaves that saw the team move back into second place in La Liga above Sevilla.
Koeman thinks Tuesday’s game will be a tight affair but thinks his team head into the fixture in pretty good shape.
“The team is doing well. We’re confident we’ll be able to win the tie knowing that we played against a strong defensive unit. They have injuries, but so do we. The tie is evenly matched. We have to play well to go through. We’re in a good run of form, with a good streak of wins. We’re confident.”
Saturday’s win over Alaves saw both Francisco Trincao and Lionel Messi score twice. The Barca captain is in good goalscoring form, and Koeman knows he will prove key to his team’s hopes of making it through to the quarter-finals.
“Messi is very important. He’s in fantastic form. We know he’s decisive; he has been for a long time. He’s very focused. He’s happy. He’s effective. With him, everything is easier. He is very involved, I see him happy. It’s easier for him if his teammates follow him. We need a Messi in his prime to eliminate PSG.”
