Barça have not had luck with the ref in two other games this season

We officially have a man to blow the whistles in Saturday’s Copa del Rey Final between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish Federation has appointed Juan Martínez Munuera as the referee for the match, with José Luís González González chosen to be the Video Assistant Referee.

It will be the third Barcelona match this season with Martínez Munuera in charge, and Barça have not had any luck. The first game was the 3-1 loss in El Clásico at Camp Nou last October with a controversial penalty by Clément Lenglet on Sergio Ramos given in that match, though the call was made by VAR and not Munuera himself.

The second was the 1-1 draw with Cádiz at Camp Nou back in February, in which Lenglet was again called for a penalty but there was no controversy that time as the Frenchman kicked Rubén Sobrino in the box right in front of the referee. Barça’s overall record with Munuera as the referee is 17 wins, 5 draws and 4 defeats in 26 games.

Munuera has also been in charge of an Athletic match this season, a 2-1 win over Granada back in March. Bilbao got a penalty that day, a foul by Kenedy on Vencedor, but Raúl García missed from the spot.

Be careful, Lenglet. Please.
