The forward’s future is still unclear

Before Euro 2020 we knew Barcelona found themselves in an interesting predicament involving Ousmane Dembele. The Frenchman’s contract runs out next summer and Barcelona either needed to extend him or sell him to avoid losing Dembele for nothing.

Then Euro 2020 happened and once again Dembele suffered an injury. An injury that the Catalan giants have already confirmed will see him out for four months to recover.

Sport are reporting that if Dembele doesn’t sign a new deal then, once he has recovered from his latest setback, Barcelona will “leave him in the stands and not use him.”

Which, would be strange, but honestly understandable, given his injury history and the fact Barca could end up seeing a player who cost a fortune and failed to live up to his price tag walk away for free.

It might also be a way of trying to convince Dembele to put pen to paper to avoid the possibility of him leaving as a free agent. Either way, this seems to have turned into yet another mess.
