Laporta tried to sign Neymar after being elected - report
The president wanted the Brazilian back at the Camp Nou
If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that Joan Laporta is good at taking big shots and making promises. A report from Sport this morning detailed how once he was elected, Joan Laporta made an effort to resign an old friend and bring him back to the Camp Nou.
Despite Barcelona unsuccessfully attempting to bring Neymar back to Spain multiple times since he left, that didn’t stop Laporta from trying yet again. The attempt reportedly consisted of sending two people to Paris to chat with Neymar.
The report details some pretty interesting details. Neymar was reportedly “desperate to return to Barca to play with Messi”. So desperate, that the report claims once PSG learned of the interest, a mysterious 20 million euros appeared in Neymar’s father’s bank account.
Now if that isn’t a bold report, I don’t know what is. It’s worth noting that the money didn’t come from any of PSG’s on the books bank accounts.
