Nastic 1-0 Barça B: Recap
A tough defeat in Tarragona and some worrying signs just two games into the season
Barça B continued their slow start to the season in the Third Division thanks to a 1-0 loss in a Catalan Derby against Gimnàstic in Tarragona. Barça showed good signs and played nice football at times but couldn’t convert their chances, and Nastic found a late winner to take all three points and sound an early alarm for new Barça B head coach Sergi Barjuan.
FIRST HALF
It was a scorching hot Sunday in Catalonia and the pace of the game reflected it, with neither team interested in running a lot and players clearly saving their energy early on. Nastic played a very physical style and weren’t afraid to kick the living hell out of Barça B, which disrupted the visitor’s rhythm in the early going.
Barça B tried to have possession but left plenty of space in behind, which Nastic exploited with lightning quick counter-attacks, mostly down the right wing with Robert Simón who caused plenty of issues and had the best chance of the half with a shot that was destined for the bottom corner but was brilliantly saved by Iñaki Peña.
Barça B had very little chances and resorted to a lot of passing in midfield without end product in the final third, and Ferran Jutglà came the closest to a meaningful chance for the away team when he had a one-on-one with the keeper, but Manu García made a solid save.
At halftime, the game was a bit of a tough watch and Barça B had to be more incisive up front to give themselves a chance to win.
SECOND HALF
Barça had a great start to the second half and created two big chances, but neither Ferran Jutglà nor Lucas De Vega could convert and the Blaugrana missed the opportunity to go ahead.
After 10 solid minutes to start the period the visitors lost their edge and Nastic started to go forward, and Iñaki Peña made two big saves and Guillem Jaime made a goal-saving clearance off the line to keep Barça alive.
But the away team looked more and more vulnerable at the back, and substitute Fran Carbia gave Nastic the lead when a long ball found him inside the box, and the striker was stronger than Barça’s Ramos Mingo and found the back of the net.
Sergi Barjuan went into a 3-2-5 formation in the final minutes to try and find an equalizer, but Nastic remained solid at the back and secured the victory. The final whistle came, and Barça B have just one point from the first two games.
It’s a slow start that could quickly put them in a tough position in a competitive division, and Barjuan needs to find answers quickly for a team that looks good enough to create chances but isn’t clinical enough to finish them.
