Sergino Dest suffers ankle sprain on international duty
The right-back limped off before half-time
Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest was forced off with injury in the first half of the USMNT’s World Cup qualifying draw against Canada on Sunday.
Coach Gregg Berhalter offered an update after the match and confirmed the 20-year-old has suffered an ankle problem.
“Sergiño Dest has an ankle sprain. We’re going to have to find out if he’ll be available on Wednesday, but that’s his status.”
The USMNT team play again on Wednesday against Honduras but Dest is now a major doubt for the game and possibly Barcelona’s next outing against Sevilla on Saturday.
Dest’s injury will be a blow and will also leave Barca short of options after selling Emerson Royal to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.
Sergi Roberto could switch to back to right-back after starting the season in midfield, while fit-again Oscar Mingueza is also an option to slot into the defense.
