Marc-André ter Stegen Names the Top 5 Goalkeepers in the World

And one interesting omission

Marc-André ter Stegen has given his opinion of who the top 5 best keepers in the world are during the build-up to FC Barcelona’s second leg against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

The best 5 according to the German are: David De Gea (Manchester United), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Ederson (Manchester City), and his next rival, Alisson from AS Roma.

Humbly, Ter Stegen has not picked himself despite the fact many are saying he is one of the best keepers in the world now, or perhaps even the best.

One interesting omission is that of Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak, who has gotten similar praise. Maybe he just didn’t think of it - after all, Ter Stegen made the list on the spot. The German also recognized that there were many great keepers beyond the top 5.

“I can’t say who is the best,” Ter Stegen said, “each one has their own style of play, and is good for their own team.”
