The Dutchman has been sidelined

Barcelona have issued an injury update on Frenkie de Jong after the midfielder was stretchered off in Sunday’s Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The midfielder had to be taken off on a stretcher after suffering another ankle injury and looked visibly distressed as he was taken off the pitch.

Here’s Barcelona’s statement.

“Tests carried out on Monday have confirmed that first team player Frenkie de Jong has a right ankle sprain. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.”

De Jong is now set to miss Barca’s final six La Liga matches of the season but is expected to be fit for this summer’s Euro 2024, according to ESPN.

Barcelona’s season is pretty much over after defeat in El Clasico. Xavi’s side have six games left but will still want to beat Girona into second place.

The team’s next game is a week today against Valencia. Barca then take on Girona before finishing off with games against Real Sociedad, Almeria, Rayo and Sevilla.
