Dani Alves on Athletic Bilbao defeat: "A night to be forgotten"

Dani Alves was definitely not in a happy mood after Barcelona's crushing 4-0 defeat against Athletic Bilbao, which almost gives the Spanish Supercup to the Basque side. After the game, the Brazilian full-back talked to the media and analyzed the match.

"There is no such thing as a fair or unfair result. It is what it is. We have to use this result to learn how to improve, to compete better. If you're not a high level on every game, all teams have their qualities and tonight's result is a night to be forgotten.

"We have to improve, we have to fight harder and compete better. We weren't at our best and football as a whole is really balanced. Everything we did last season is part of the past. We have to take the next step if we really want to compete for the titles.

"We can't let our guard down; if we do, these things will happen again. We have to at least compete.

"Being tired has nothing to do with it. There is no excuse, we lost. We lacked concentration as a whole, especially on defense. The entire team has to improve this part of the game.

"Second leg? We will try again. Tonight we gave our 100% but things didn't go as planned, but the solution is to work harder, to compete and fight for the title.

"We have earned enough credibility that people trust our team and believe we can turn this around. Ninety minutes are so much more at Camp Nou. At the end of the day, the result will say if we did enough."
