Tiredness not an excuse for Sergio Busquets
The midfielder says the team have recovered well after the European Super Cup final and expect a stiff test in San Mamés
Sergio Busquets has revealed that the team have recovered “quite well” from their efforts in winning the European Super Cup last Tuesday and that this Friday against Athletic Club there “ought not to be any excuses.” “We are playing at a tough ground, San Mamés, and we have to give our all without excuses,” explained the midfielder in his press conference prior to the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup final.
Busquets is aware that Athletic Club are coming into the game “better physically” and continued: “Tactically we know each other well, because we have played a lot matches and finals in recent years and this is no different.” He also added that he expected an Athletic side who will be “intense, hard working tactically and physically, and who have quality young players.”
The Catalan midfielder is clear that against Athletic “it’s better to have the second leg at home,” and he was sure “nothing would be decided in the first 90 minutes."
Asked about Pedro Rodríguez’s situation, Busquets stated that he wanted his team mates to stay due to his footballing qualities and his qualities as a friend, even though he will understand any decision taken given “like any player, he wants minutes on the field.” Nevertheless, he said Pedro, “from the first day to the last will given everything for the team as he has always done.”
