Iniesta Trying to Be Fit Enough to Play vs. Chelsea
The UEFA Champions League match could come too soon for him, however
Andrés Iniesta is going to attempt to do everything possible to be fit for Barcelona’s second leg clash with Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League, despite an injury that many predicted would take three to four weeks to heal.
Iniesta only played half an hour before pulling up with a hamstring injury as Barcelona won a pivotal La Liga clash against Atlético Madrid by a 1-0 scoreline. Reports in the media suggested it may take up to a month for the midfield maestro to heal, but today we are learning that perhaps it’s not as bad as initially feared.
With Philippe Coutinho ineligible to play the Champions League, Barcelona would miss Iniesta a lot in this important match. They do have a decent advantage, having drawn the first leg at Stamford Bridge 1-1.
Both Diario SPORT and Mundo Deportivo say Iniesta will be in a race to full fitness to be available for the return leg, which will be in less than a week’s time.
