If Messi played tennis he’d have won 50 Grand Slams - Rakitic

Ivan Rakitic has been talking up team-mate Lionel Messi and reckons if he’d opted to play tennis instead of football he’d still have dozens of trophies to his name.

The two players will clash at the World Cup as Messi’s Argentina have been drawn in the same group as Rakitic’s Croatia.

Rakitic reckons Argentina will be one of the favourites, because they have Messi, even though the Barcelona star has inisted that’s not the case.

“As with all other team-mates that went to World Cup, I wished him all the luck,” he said.

”Of course, when you have the best player in the world, you are favourites, although he says they are not.

”He’d give some titles with Barcelona for that one with Argentina. If Messi had played tennis, he’d have won 50 Grand Slams!

”But you don’t play football by yourself, it is not an individual sport.”
