De Jong’s dad says ‘Barcelona would be the best decision’

The midfielder’s future is still a hot topic

Frenkie de Jong’s father has been talking about his son’s future and reckons he will most probably leave Ajax in the summer.

The midfielder has been linked with a host of clubs including Barcelona, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, and De Jong senior reckons the Camp Nou is the best place for his son.

“You have to decide. He is a very intelligent boy, and he will make his decision in the spring,” he said.

“There is a 95% chance of leaving Ajax, and Barça would be the best decision.”

The most recent rumors have claimed De Jong has agreed a deal with PSG, although he has since insisted he has not made a decision on his future.

“The only thing I can and will say is that there is still no agreement,” he said.

”No official decision has been taken and while there is no transfer, my main focus is on Ajax. There are five games to go until the winter break, I only want to think about the game against PEC this weekend and the next Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

”I can’t be worried about saying ‘I’m going here or there’. That wouldn’t show any respect on my part for Ajax or my team-mates.”

It seems almost certain De Jong will leave Ajax at the end of the summer, although we’re still no nearer to knowing where he might end up.
