Levante to appeal decision to keep Barcelona in Copa del Rey

The saga is not over yet

Levante have confirmed they plan to appeal the decision to dismiss their complaint against Barcelona fielding an ineligible player in their Copa del Rey last 16 tie.

The RFEF announced just before Friday’s quarter-final draw that they had dismissed Levante’s complaint as it had not been made in time.

However, Paco Lopez’s side now plan to take the matter further. Here’s their official statement on the issue.

“Levante informs that after the judgement made by the competition’s lone judge, which refused the allegation of an ineligible Barcelona player in the first leg of the knockout round of Copa del Rey, Levante will this afternoon appeal to the Appeals Committee of the RFEF so that the committee can resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Barcelona were drawn to face Sevilla in the quarter-finals, with the first leg scheduled for the Ramon Sánchez-Pizjuán next week.

However, Levante’s latest statement means the saga will continue for now, and they will be hoping they can get the original decision overturned.
