OFFICIAL: Barcelona extend Ernesto Valverde’s contract

The boss will stay for at least another season

Barcelona confirmed on Friday they have agreed to extend Ernesto Valverde’s contract for next season, with the option of one more.

The Barcelona boss is due to put pen to paper on Friday morning, he will then face the press later in the day when we should hear more about his decision.

Barcelona already had the option for Valverde to continue in charge of the club next season but have now taken it up. He could also continue for the 2020/21 campaign.

Valverde won a league and cup double in his first season in charge of the club, although the campaign was marred by the side’s shock exit from the Champions League at the hands of Roma.

Overall he’s taken charge of 96 matches for Barcelona, winning 65 and losing just nine times.

Next up for Valverde and Barcelona are Real Valladolid in La Liga on Saturday, followed by a trip to Lyon in the Champions League on Tuesday.
