Barca confident Todibo can play important role

The defender made his debut on Wednesday

Barcelona plan on heavily relying on Jean-Clair Todibo next year, according to Marca. Todibo featured heavily on Wednesday in Barcelona’s match against Girona and played pretty well on his debut for his new club.

Here’s a look at the new boy in action:

Todibo actually started the game in midfield, and Ernesto Valverde explained why after the match:

“We put him there because we knew he’d played there for France’s youth teams. We wanted to see him in action, give him minutes, but it’s normal that he was lost [in midfield] because it’s been a long time without playing. At the end he was hurting everywhere and began to have muscle problems [so we took him off].”

The message out of Barcelona’s camp is that even though he looked inexperienced at some points they aren’t going to scrutinize it too closely the rest of the season. The idea for Barcelona is that the coaching staff will continue to evaluate him the rest of the year in training.

He likely won’t get much more playing time, if any at all, between La Liga’s campaign and the Champions League. Todibo isn’t on the Champions League roster for the knockout stages so an appearance there isn’t going to happen, and unless La Liga is a runaway contest he won’t get to play with the first team there either.
