Dembele returns to training, Valverde still to decide if he’ll face Lyon

The Barcelona boss gave an update on his fitness

Ousmane Dembele returned to Barcelona training on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Lyon.

The French forward is considered a doubt for the match after picking up a hamstring problem during the win over Rayo Vallecano on the weekend.

However, his appearance in training will raise optimism that he will be fit enough to play some part against Lyon.

Ernesto Valverde spoke about Dembele during his pre-match press conference and made it clear he is not prepared to risk the forward if he’s not 100 per cent.

“We’re going to see how he feels and then we’ll decide if he’s okay or not. If he isn’t, then clearly he won’t play.

“It’s true that this is an important match but we can’t risk using someone who might need to be replaced early. Every detail is important.”

If Dembele does miss out then it’s expected Philippe Coutinho will take his place in the attack, although given his recent form it’s possible Valverde could look at other options.
