Overmars speaks about Matthijs de Ligt’s future

The defender is expected to move this summer

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars spoke about defender Matthijs de Ligt this week. The Dutch defender has been long rumored to be heading to Barcelona this summer but nothing concrete has taken place.

“De Ligt has an incredible personality,” he said. “He’s our centre-back, our captain and he has promising future. I love Barcelona but I don’t know what he will do.”

Overmars’ comments make it seem like this is down to what De Ligt wants to do. That would lead some to believe that personal terms are the holdup purely because of De Ligt’s lack of a decision thus far. Perhaps once Ajax’s season is finished up shortly a decision will be made and we can finally know if Frenkie de Jong is bringing a friend with him to the Camp Nou.
