No new No. 9 for Barcelona this summer

The club’s plans have changed

Barcelona were expected to bring in a new No. 9 during the summer transfer window but that is now looking unlikely.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club will not bring in a striker during the transfer window unless Ernesto Valverde specifically asks for one during pre-season.

The club have plenty of attacking options following the arrival of Antoine Griezmann, while Lionel Messi’s versatility means a back-up for Luis Suarez is no longer a priority.

Barca certainly don’t want to bring in a cheap option after their experience with Kevin-Prince Boateng last season. He barely played, even when Suarez was injured.

Valverde could look to use Barcelona B’s Carles Perez or Abel Ruiz next season if he is short of options. The duo have trained regularly with the first team and could be called up if needed.
