The legendary manager is backing the Dutchman to become a star

Frenkie De Jong has been the start of what was a very productive preseason for Barcelona. We all knew how good he was at Ajax and the Dutch national team, but playing for Barça is a different deal and we were all curious to see how long it would take for him to adapt and start showing his quality. And it didn’t take long at all.

De Jong has slotted in seamlessly in midfield, either playing in Sergio Busquets’ position or alongside him in a more advanced role, and his performance in the preseason finale against Napoli on Saturday was the cherry on top and virtually guaranteed him in the starting XI for next week’s La Liga debut against Athletic Bilbao.

And De Jong isn’t just impressing Barça fans, he’s caught the eye of Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti, who had to face him twice in three days in the United States and was very impressed by his skills. And the man who’s coached Andrea Pirlo and Xabi Alonso, just to name two legendary midfielders, is backing the Dutchman to have a big future at Barça.

“He is a great center midfielder and I see him as a really good player. De Jong plays calm and is very effective in controlling the game. He is going to be very good for Barcelona”

Look, I don’t know about you, but I’m not about to disagree with Carlo Ancelotti.
