Arthur wants to get in better shape, play with Neymar
The Brazilian spoke to the media in Detroit
Arthur Melo cut his extended vacation from the Copa América five days short so he could return earlier to Barcelona and start his preparation for the new season with one goal in mind: get in better shape.
The talent and intelligence is undeniable, but something else was painful clear when watching Arthur play in midfield: he would die after 60 minutes and start walking on the pitch, and Ernesto Valverde had no choice but to bring him off. It seems easy: if Arthur is in better shape, he’ll play more and all the positive things about his game will impact the team for longer periods in matches.
Arthur is aware of that, and he wants to be stronger and in better shape. He also really wants to play with Neymar, and he told reporters he thinks Philippe Coutinho should stay.
“This is going to be a long season, but a good one. This year, I think I am more mature and better adapted. Personally, I want to get stronger physically, because last year it got a little tough for me. As a team, our objective is to win every title we can. We know it’s difficult, but that’s why we’re here.
”It’s [Coutinho’s] decision. I want him to stay because he’s a great player and he’s my friend.
”I don’t want to bother [Neymar]. He gets asked about that by everyone. We’ll see what happens. I like playing with him on the Brazil national team and it would be great to have him here at Barça as well.”
