Ansu Fati could be missing for Barcelona for a month for U17 World Cup

The young star will have a decision to make

Ansu Fati’s meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed by the Spanish football federation. The RFEF is said to be working on convincing the 16-year-old Barcelona forward to join the Spanish team at youth level as soon as possible.

His father, Bori Fati, has said the player should be receiving his Spanish passport soon. That means the process could very well already be in progress.

Expediting the steps to get him registered for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil this October will not be easy, but it is feasible. If the player so chooses, he may get the chance to represent Spain.

Fati was born in Guinea-Bissau, but his family moved alongside him to Spain when he was just six years old. Guinea-Bissau is currently ranked #123 by FIFA and have never made the FIFA World Cup, whereas Spain are a superpower who won the 2010 edition.

However, if he assisted the tournament, which takes place between October 26 and November 17, he would miss seven Barcelona matches. Most importantly, he would miss the Camp Nou match against Real Madrid on the 27th of October.

In addition, he would miss clashes against Eibar, Slavia Prague, Valladolid, Levante, another against Slavia Prague, and then Celta.

It’s one thing for Fati to choose to play for Spain, and then it is another decision for him to make whether to miss a month with Barcelona.
