The Uruguayan confirmed his former teammate was trying to leave PSG as hard as he could

Luis Suárez has confirmed what was widely reported: that Neymar was trying to do everything possible to leave Paris Saint-Germain last summer. A return to Barcelona was rumored, but it never came to be.

In an exclusive interview with Fox Sports Radio, the Uruguayan reminisced about the saga that took Neymar to PSG and almost brought him back to the Camp Nou:

“We discussed it at the moment when Ney wanted to leave. Everyone knew it. Lionel Messi and I told him, ‘at the individual level, take the decision you want to. But as a player, as far as a club, and as far as awards, you will always have it at Barcelona.’ But well, those are decisions. In his moment he decided that was best for him, now the decision was to try everything to return. It was difficult, but the relationship we had helped a lot.”

The striker also discussed the arrival of Antoine Griezmann from Atlético Madrid:

“We received him in the best way possible, demonstrating that the dressing room is very humble for what people see from the outside. It’s difficult to come here. But when they do, they see that we’re all the same and that no one believes themselves to be better than anyone else.”

Suárez also spoke of his relationship with Messi:

“With Messi on the pitch we know each other without seeing each other. We understand each other marvelously. When he gets the ball, I spring to one side, and I know he’ll hit it to that area, and he knows that I’m going to be making that run. You start understanding each other and knowing each other more. Sometimes opponents believe I’ll shoot after his pass, but then I return it because I know after assisting, he keeps going.”
