The Bayern goalkeeper has had his say

Marc-Andre ter Stegen made his frustration at being on the bench for Germany pretty clear over the international break.

The Barcelona stopper said the the situation “drives me a bit mad” and also said his lack of playing time for the national team had been a “tough blow.”

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is Germany’s first choice, and he does not seem too impressed by his compatriot’s comments.

“I think he’s a good keeper and he is performing well, but I’m not sure if that helps us,” he said.

”We are a team and should present ourselves as such. We have great goalkeepers. We have Kevin Trapp, Bernd Leno... these are all great goalkeepers who also want to play and then sit on the bench.

”We are a team. We have to stick together. The goalkeepers also have to stick together.”

It’s hard not to feel sympathy for Ter Stegen with regards the national team. He has been consistently excellent for Barcelona over recent years and looks to have the edge over a declining Neuer.
