The club will have to field a makeshift backline

Barcelona take on Sevilla next in La Liga and will have to field an unfamiliar looking defence for Sunday’s visit from Julen Lopetegui’s side.

Clement Lenglet is suspended for the clash which gives Jean-Clair Todibo the chance to shine in central defence alongside Gerard Pique.

Samuel Umtiti remains on the sidelines so Barcelona B defender Ronald Araújo may find himself on the bench for the clash after being called into first-team training this week.

In the full-back slots Jordi Alba and Junior Firpo were still not back in training on Thursday which suggests they will once again be absent from Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI.

Their absences mean that Nelson Semedo should continue at left-back, while Sergi Roberto will start again on the opposite flank.

The injuries are not ideal for Barcelona who have looked vulnerable defensively all season and have kept just one clean sheet in seven league games. Their record of 10 goals conceded in those matches does not inspire confidence either.

Yet there are always home comforts to look forward to. Despite the injuries and poor form from the team this season they are have won all four matches at the Camp Nou, and another on Sunday would send them into the international break in good shape in La Liga.
