Barca to face Atleti in Spanish Super Cup semi-finals

The winner will play Valencia or Real Madrid in the final

The draw for the Spanish Super Cup took place on Monday with Barcelona set to face Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.

The tournament has been completely revamped this year and uses a ‘final four’ format featuring Barcelona, Copa del Rey winners Valencia, and Atletico and Real Madrid making up the numbers (well actually because they were second and third in La Liga last season)

It will be held in Saudi Arabia from January 8 to 12 with games taking place at the 62,000 capacity King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.

Fixtures:

Valencia vs. Real Madrid - January 8

Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid - January 9

The Spanish Football Federation have confirmed women will be able to watch the games with no restrictions and insisted it will not be “the Super Cup of shame.”

Obviously the two winners of the semi-finals go on to face each other in the final on January 12. At the moment there are no plans to have a third-place play-off.
