The 32-year-old is now Barca’s top scorer in La Liga this season with nine goals and five assists from just nine starts. Messi is also now just one goal behind Karim Benzema in the PIchichi standings despite missing the start of the season through injury.
Messi will be presented with the award before Barca’s home game against Alaves on December 21. On Saturday he will show off his Ballon d’Or trophy in front of the Camp Nou faithful.
