The youngster could be promoted to the first team

Patrick Kluivert says that Carles Alena’s departure to Real Betis for the rest of the season on loan could be good news for Riqui Puig.

The 20-year-old has not made a single first-team appearance for Barca this season but has said he is willing to be patient and wait for his chance at the Camp Nou.

Kluivert reckons Alena’s exit means Puig could be promoted to the first-team but it’s all up to Ernesto Valverde to make that call.

“I think so, it depends on Valverde. If there is a space, I think Riqui has to be the first to go up. I have told Riqui,” he said.

“Everyone wants to play in the first team and then look at their interests. To grow it is not bad to go on loan to a good team to continue growing as a player and person.”
