The midfielder wants to wait for opportunities

Barcelona youngster Riqui Puig says he needs to be patient, like Andres Iniesta and Xavi were during their time at the club, if he is to succeed at the Camp Nou.

The 20-year-old is finding it difficult to break into the first team at the club, and there has been a suggestion he could be loaned out in the January transfer window.

Puig has made it clear he really doesn’t want to leave the club and will look to Barca legends Iniesta and Xavi for inspiration.

“Yes it is true that I notice the affection of the Culés, I suppose there are two factors that make me loved more; that I am from here, from Matadepera, and that I have the DNA that has made this club so great,” he said.

“I have made it quite clear other times, for a home player the joy is to be close to the first team. My references have been Xavi and Iniesta. They were patient to have the opportunity and I have to be like them.”

The youngster has spoken up a few times recently and it now looks highly unlikely he will be going anywhere in January, although whether he gets any chances in the first team remains to be seen. Keep your fingers crossed.
