‘Never say never’ is the midfielder’s message

Carles Alena has been talking about his future after sealing a loan switch to Real Betis and made a pretty surprising comment when the topic turned to playing for Real Madrid.

The midfielder, who joined Barcelona in 2007 at the age of seven and has progressed through the youth the ranks to the first-team squad, refused to definitively rule out playing for Los Blancos.

“Football in the end goes around a lot, you never know, it is clear that they are the rival team,” he said.

“I have been at Barça all my life, it would cost but they have always taught me to never to say never because football goes around so many times, but it is clear that they are the rival team.

Alena also spoke about how Ernesto Valverde offered no explanation for his lack of game time this season after starting him in the season opener against Athletic Bilbao and then dropping him but insisted he maintained a good relationship with the Barca boss.
