Yan Couto could be heading to Barcelona

FC Barcelona are close to snatching up one of Brazil’s key players in their U17 FIFA World Cup win last year, according to reports in Brazil. The deal with Coritiba for Yan Couto would be worth 5 million euro, plus an additional 3 million in bonuses.

Couto is a 17-year-old fullback known for his pace and ability on the ball. He has reportedly been chased by Arsenal as well as Barça. A right-back, he has been compared to a young Dani Alves.

Barça have so far failed to fully replace Alves since the fullback left in 2016. Right now, Nélson Semedo and Sergi Roberto split time at the right-back spot, while the Catalans control a pair of prospects that could perhaps challenge for the spot: Moussa Wagué and Emerson, another Brazilian. Couto could be the future for Barcelona at that position.
