Barcelona top Deloitte Football Money League for first time

The Spanish champions are the world’s richest club
Barcelona have topped Deloitte’s Football Money League for the first time, overtaking La Liga rivals Real Madrid to take first place in the 2020 list.
The list is produced annually to name the highest earning football clubs in the world. Deloitte uses figures generated from clubs’ annual accounts but does not include revenue from transfer fees.
The Spanish champions generated record revenue of €841 million, becoming the first club to break the €800m barrier and finished way ahead of Real Madrid who brought in €757.2m.

- Manchester United: €711.5m
- Bayern Munich: €660.1m
- Paris Saint-Germain: €635.9m
- Manchester City: €610.6m
- Liverpool: €604.7m.
- Tottenham: €521.1m
- Chelsea: €513.1m
- Juventus: €459.7m
The next La Liga club to make the top 20 are Atletico Madrid. They come in 13th place with revenue of €367.6m.
Barcelona’s revenue jumped from €611.6m in 2017-18 to €741.1m in 2018-19 and has been put down to a change in policy that has seen the club take charge of certain operations.
“Recognising the power of its name, the club has acquired control of its merchandising and commercial licenses, rather than entrusting them to third party operations. Barça is a clear example of a club that adapts to an evolving market, reducing its dependence on revenue derived from TV rights and putting the focus on revenue that it is able to control directly.”

The report also states that Barcelona are on course to hit their stated ambition of earning revenue of one billion euros and are expected to remain top of the standings next year.
