De Ligt’s agent says Barca treated him like a ‘piece of cheese’

Mino Raiola has had a pop at the Spanish champions

Matthijs de Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola said that Barcelona didn’t treat his client all that well. Being one of the more controversial agents out there, Raiola had no problem saying what he thought Barcelona used his client for.

“Barça thought: ‘(Frenkie) de Jong’s coming, (De Ligt) will arrive as well,” he said. “They treated him like a piece of cheese, as we say. But the reasons they wanted him there were wrong... did they believe a player like Pique was going to leave his spot in the team?

”In Holland, they almost believe Barça are a Dutch club, not a foreign club, they saw this transfer almost as sacrilege, they thought he had to go there.

”De Ligt is not interested in money, he just wants to play. And Juve wanted him one year ago. And (De Ligt) told me: ‘Mino, I want to go the Harvard of defending.’ So that’s why we chose Juve, to graduate.”

Seems a bit unfair if you ask me. Although, Raiola would certainly know more than I. De Ligt seems like someone Barcelona would want regardless of what he brings or doesn’t bring with him. Nevertheless, it’s pretty funny to hear him talk about using De Ligt like cheese.
