The new signing will arrive at the Camp Nou in July

In what was an eventful January transfer window, Barcelona allowed a host of young players to depart. Considering that the likes of Carles Perez and Abel Ruiz will be leaving Camp Nou permanently, Barca fans may feel anxious about whether losing so many young talents could prove detrimental. Fortunately, July will see the club fill the voids that these young stars leave behind, as Matheus Fernandes and Francisco Trincão will be joining the club. First up let’s take at look at Trincão and what he will bring to the Barca squad.

Francisco Trincão

This Portuguese forward moved around quite a bit during his youth, playing for academies such as Braga, Porto, and Vianense. In July 2016, during his second tenure at Braga, Trincão earned promotion to the B team. Here, he played for two seasons before earning his first team call-up in July 2018. The 2018/19 season saw Trincão make just six appearances in Liga Nos, while he still played seven games in Liga Pro for the B team.

This season has seen Trincão really hit his stride, particularly in recent games. So far, the 20 year-old has appeared in 12 league matches, scoring three goals and making two assists. Recently, the youngster has been in decent form, being involved in three goals in his last five league matches.

He was on target at the weekend, just days after his move to Barcelona was announced, coming off the bench to score the winner in a 1-0 victory over Sporting.

Trincão has also made four appearances in the Europa League, grabbing a goal and an assist against Slovan Bratislava in the final group game.

Primarily, Trincão has played on the right wing, while occasionally filling in as a second striker as well as a left winger. Upon his arrival in July, expect Trincão to exhibit supreme dribbling skills laced with plenty of showboating as well as the pace and precision that has allowed him to be a deadly force up front. As a real game changer, it’s no wonder that Barca forked out €31m on a five-year deal for the youngster. Check out his many talents in the video below:

Former Braga boss Ricardo Sa Pinto knows Trincao well from working with him at the Portuguese side and has said Barca have made a “great signing” and that he has the “talent and personality to succeed at the Camp Nou” in a recent interview. Here’s what else he had to say about the youngster.

“He is fast, passes the ball well, has great awareness on the pitch, he’s good one on one and he can provide both goals and assists. He is left footed, but he can use his right foot and prefers to play on the right wing. Although he has played through the middle, he is more comfortable on the wing. He is willing to make sacrifices. If he has to defend, he defends. He puts the group first.”

With rising talents such as Fernandes and Trincão due to arrive at the Camp Nou, exciting times lie ahead. So long as Quique Setien has the right plan for them in mind, these young stars could be key performers for the Blaugranes in the coming years.
