Eric Abidal and Lionel Messi are headline news

Eric Abidal and Lionel Messi find themselves splashed all over the front pages in Spain on Wednesday after the Barcelona captain reacted angrily to criticism from the sporting director in an interview with Sport.

There’s a real sense that Barca’s season is about to implode after Abidal said “many players weren’t satisfied or working hard” under Ernesto Valverde and Messi responded with “when you talk about players, you have to give names because if not, it gives air to things which are not true.”

Abidal’s original interview was given to Sport, and the Catalan daily leads the way with a front page which doesn’t need much translation at all.

AS are predictably enjoying the drama at Camp Nou calling Barca ‘Chaos FC’ but leading with a picture of Messi and Ousmane Dembele. Let’s not forget Messi’s social media post came out just hours after the club had confirmed Dembele has suffered yet another serious injury.

Over at Mundo Deportivo the headline is ‘Messi against Abidal’ and a picture of the two with a red background. They also have more quotes from Abidal where he says signing Lautaro Martinez or Neymar is not impossible.

Marca have a very serious looking Lionel Messi on their front page which is headlined ‘Messi’s Punch’ and talk about Barcelona igniting after their captain explodes.

L’Esportiu go with a picture of Messi and ‘Explodes’ as their headline. They also have ‘Dembele KO’ on their front page and reckon the Frenchman’s season is over.
