The club is going to take a financial hit

FC Barcelona, like many businesses worldwide, is bracing for a big economic impact from the fallout of the coronavirus crisis. Spain’s non-essential businesses are closed down, and expecting a huge financial hit.

Barcelona are said to be prioritizing above all else the health and safety of its players, staff, fans and club members. However, they are also looking at potential business impacts.

The club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has already said the Napoli match alone being held behind close doors would result in a loss of €6 million. However, a new report says the total overall loss over this crisis will be €60 million.

The Catalans have to continue payments such as salaries for players, while income streams have been devastated. Without any tourists, the shops are closed and no shirts are being sold. The club’s museum is closed as well, and no matchday tickets (including VIP experiences) can be offered. There also will not be any events held in the Camp Nou premises. More than 500 such events are held in the facilities.

The club will finish the financial year in the red, almost certainly, unless the end date is shifted. In addition, the club will need the 19-20 season to finish, as this is the main source of income for the clubs. Whether it happens in June, July, or even August, is less important - it has to happen.
