The youngster scored in the 2-0 win

Quique Setien has explained why he took Ansu Fati off early in the second half of Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Leganes at the Camp Nou.

The 17-year-old scored a terrific opening goal but was replaced on 54 minutes by Luis Suarez.

Fati has reportedly been suffering with a bit of knee trouble recently, and Setien said he did not want to take any risks with the youngster.

“We opted for Ansu today because he’s overcome some injury problems and has looked really good in several training sessions now,” he said.

“He did a good job, both in attack and defence. It’s true still lacks some things, but he needs the consistency that he still doesn’t have due to the problems that prevented him training on several days.

“But he did really well when he was on. I didn’t want to put him at risk anymore after the recent problems. He already had some pain at half time and we wanted to take care of him.”

Fati’s goal means he may have played his way into contention for Friday’s game against Sevilla. Luis Suarez is still feeling his way back from injury, while Antoine Griezmann had another disappointing showing against Leganes.
