Pique: Griezmann’s goal important for his confidence

The striker scored a fine third against Villarreal

Gerard Pique said it was important for Antoine Griezmann to rediscover his goalscoring touch after Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday.

The Frenchman was restored to the starting XI for the match and netted his 15th goal of the season for the Catalan giants with a brilliant lob to make it 3-1.

Griezmann’s goal was just his second in La Liga in 2020, and Pique feels it will give him a much-needed confidence boost.

“The three points are important to continue fighting for La Liga. This game was very important for us. Now it’s up to us to continue like this until the end of the season,” he said.

“It was important for Griezmann to score that goal, it’s important for his confidence.

“We don’t like being behind in the standings and we will fight to turn the situation around, even though it’s complicated.”

It was a much-improved performance from Barcelona with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann all shining in attack. The result cuts the gap back to four points to Real Madrid with just four games left.
