The hosts found it tough going at Camp Nou

Quique Setien admitted Barcelona were far from their best on Wednesday in their 1-0 win over Espanyol in La Liga.

Luis Suarez scored the only goal of the game in a match that saw both teams finish with 10 men after Ansu Fati and Pol Lozano saw red.

Barcelona’s performance was in stark contrast to their win at Villarreal on Sunday, and Setien admitted it had been difficult to break down Espanyol.

“We didn’t have a great game. We found it very difficult against the defence Espanyol had,” he said.

“They were very intense, very closed, and we didn’t have the space or precision to move in.”

“It was very difficult. They did a great job defensively.

“They had a lot of players gathered, so it’s not easy with so many players there.”

The result was enough to end Espanyol’s long stay in La Liga, confirming the club’s relegation from the top flight for the first since 1994. Barca move one point behind Real Madrid at the top but have played a game more than Los Blancos.
