AS Roma join race for Samuel Umtiti - reports
The Italians want the Barça defender on loan
Samuel Umtiti is not a big part of the Barcelona’s plans for next season’s squad and the club would be willing to let the player leave if the right offer arrives. And according to reports, that offer may come from AS Roma, who are the latest team to join the race for the World Cup winner.
According to Mundo Deportivo Umtiti has been offered to Roma who are interested in Umtiti as an alternative to Jan Vertonghen, who is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur but doesn’t seem too keen on signing for Roma. Diario Sport says Roma approached Barça with an offer of a season-long loan with an obligation to buy next summer, and the Blaugrana would be willing to accept if Roma agree to pay the player’s full wages.
Umtiti has been linked with the Premier League and even a return to France, where he shined for Lyon. But Roma are indeed on the lookout for a left-footed defender, so there might be some real substance to this rumor if the Vertonghen deal does indeed fall through.
