The midfielder was a late substitute against Napoli

Monchu admitted it was a “dream come true” to make his Barcelona debut on Saturday in the Champions League against Napoli.

The Barcelona B captain came off the bench in the 84th minute to replace Antoine Griezmann at the Camp Nou in the 3-1 last-16 win.

Although it was a surprise substitution by manager Quique Setien, putting Monchu on ahead of Riqui Puig or Ansu Fati, it was a deserved reward for a fine season.

Monchu has taken to Twitter to express his gratitude at being handed his full debut.

“A unique moment. A dream come true. All the daily work is for moments like this to come. Thanks to everyone for the messages and to those who have made it possible. The road continues. Força Barça!”

Barcelona B boss Francisco Javier García Pimienta also seemed pretty chuffed to see Monchu make his full debut. He tweeted: “Monchu’s debut !!! How he deserves it !!”

There have been rumors Monchu could leave Barcelona this summer with Sassuolo admitting there have been talks. Was his surprise appearance on Saturday a way of trying to keep him at the club?
