The club are front page news again

Barcelona are of course front page news once again after being hammered 8-2 in the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Friday night.

Sport go with ‘Historic Humiliation’ on their front page and a picture of Lionel Messi looking dejected after seeing his team dismantled in Europe’s top competition once again.

The newspaper notes how it’s Barca’s biggest defeat in Europe and means the club ends a traumatic season empty-handed.

Sport carry Gerard Pique, Quique Setien and Josep Maria Bartomeu’s quotes on their front page and reckons Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are now favourites to lift the European Cup.

Mundo Deportivo also have a black front page on Saturday and call Barca’s defeat a ‘Shameful End to the Cycle.’

MD’s front page also adds that Quique Setien will not continue as coach and focuses on Pique’s comments that he will “be the first to leave” if necessary.

Perhaps most interesting of all is MD’s front page claiming Josep Maria Bartomeu will call elections in the wake of the humiliation.

Over at AS there is also a ‘Historic Humiliation’ headline with a picture of a dejected-looking Lionel Messi on the front cover.

Pique’s comments are again front page news, while AS also report on Bartomeu saying decisions will be made in the wake of the defeat.

And finally Marca go with a very simple headline of ‘Shame’ on their front page, and a picture of Barca players with their heads bowed.

They report on how Setien is likely to be sacked after Barca’s awful performance and also note how there’s no Spanish side in last four of the Champions League for the first time in 13 years.
