The captain is big news

Lionel Messi is unsurprisingly all over the front pages in Spain following Tuesday’s news that he wants to leave Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo’s front page is all black with the headline: Messi Bomb: He wants to go.

The front pages tells the story of the day and also explains how Barca have asked Messi to reconsider and want him to finish his career at the Camp Nou. There’s also a report that the captain called Pep Guardiola to talk about a move.

Over at Sport the headline is: Total War! They report Messi is hoping to become a free agent this summer due to a clause in his contract.

Sport claim PSG, Manchester City, Inter and Manchester United are all possible destinations for the GOAT and note how Koeman is left with three captains Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto.

‘Goodbye by Burofax’ is the headline in AS alongside a picture of an unhappy looking Messi.

Again the talk is about how Messi is hoping to become a free agent, while Barcelona have decided they want €222 million for his signature.

Marca’s headline is a simple: ‘I want to leave Barcelona.’

They also bring more on news about a war between Messi and Barcelona due to the difference in opinions about the clause in his contract. The Catalans say it expired on June 10, but Messi thinks it should be extended due to the delayed nature of the season.
