Papers: Bayern provoke Barcelona ahead of UCL tie

FC Bayern Muenchen Doha Training Camp - Day 3

The players are aware of recent comments

Bayern Munich have not been shy about talking about Friday’s quarter-final clash with Barcelona in Lisbon.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barca players are well aware of what has been said and will be “extra motivated” for the game after being “stung” by some of Bayern’s words.

It all started with former Bayern Munich man Lothar Matthäus, who made it clear he thinks the Bundesliga champions will progress with ease, according to Marca.

“Bayern will have to make a lot of mistakes to lose to this Barcelona, today’s Barcelona isn’t the same as it was before,” Matthaus explained.

He went one step further in an interview with Bild, saying Robert Lewandowski is the best player in the world and Messi alone “isn’t enough to beat this Bayern.”

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge then joined in by describing Manuel Neuer was “world class” but Marc-Andre ter Stegen is only “on his way to world-class.”

Meanwhile, Thomas Muller has not lacked for confidence ahead of the tie either. He spoke recently about how Bayern are “marching from record to record at the moment.”

Bayern are understandably favorites for the tie after doing the double in Germany and making light work of the Champions League so far. Can Barca make the Bundesliga giants eat their words on Friday?
