Juninho says there’s a chance the Dutch forward leaves the club this summer

The Memphis Depay to Barcelona rumors continue to heat up more and more. The Dutch forward looks close to joining Ronald Koeman’s side along with Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as Koeman looks to bring in some familiar faces from his time coaching the Netherlands national team.

And according to Lyon sporting director and club legend Juninho, there is a chance that Depay — and two other key Lyon players, Houssem Aouar and Moussa Dembélé — leave the club this summer as Lyon look to reduce the squad without European competition to play next season.

“It is not planned to sell Houssem, Memphis and Moussa at the same time... The departure of the three together is not planned. [But] they attract the market.

“Memphis was unfortunately injured. We tried to extend his contract, the president did everything but he did not want to discuss during this period. In a year, he will be free.

While it remains to be seen what happens to Aouar and Dembélé, Depay’s departure is almost a certainty. With only a year left in his contract Lyon have to sell him now to avoid losing him for free next summer, and with Barça the only club truly interested in his services, it does look like Memphis is coming to Catalonia.
