The problem is Real Madrid is in pole position

Two leading candidates to become Barcelona’s next club president are making moves to try to bring Kylian Mbappé to FC Barcelona, should they win the post, according to a new report.

But, such an operation is not considered incredibly likely because it’s strongly rumored that the player is most likely to join Real Madrid instead.

Victor Font and Joan Laporta are said to be gunning for his signing, although Font is rumored to be further along in the process, having been in touch with the player’s entourage.

It’s common for Barcelona presidential candidates to campaign based on the premise that they will be able to land a superstar, and it’s hard to think of many others in the transfer market that would eclipse the World Cup winner.

Laporta, for his part, was club president in the past. Famously, he ran on the promise of bringing David Beckham from Manchester United. Instead, the Englishman went to Real Madrid. Although, it turned out good for Barcelona anyway, as the backup plan was signing Ronaldinho, who would become a club legend.

Rumor has it that Mbappé will reject Paris Saint-Germain’s attempts to expand his contract, which would mean the French team would be forced to sell him next year or face losing him on a free transfer.
