Braithwaite ‘proud and honored’ to be Barca’s No. 9
The striker takes over from Luis Suarez
Martin Braithwaite says he’s “proud and honored” to be Barcelona’s new No. 9 after taking over the shirt from Luis Suarez.
Barcelona revealed their squad numbers for 2020-21 earlier this season and there were a few eyebrows raised when it emerged Braithwaite is the club’s new No. 9.
The striker, who is currently on international duty with Denmark, took part in a Q&A on Twitter where he was asked for his thoughts on taking the iconic shirt.
I’m really honored and proud. So many great players have worn that number in the past. But wearing the badge of @fcbarcelona will always be special for me https://t.co/Py4eBqaO8V

Braithwaite hasn’t featured in Barca’s first three games of the season under new boss Ronald Koeman. He missed the start of the campaign with a leg injury but has since returned to fitness.
Suarez may have left but it still looks as though the club’s new No. 9 might spend most of the season on the bench given the attacking options at Koeman’s disposal.
