The goalkeeper has had his say

France captain Hugo Lloris has leapt to the defence of Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann and defended the World Cup winner from his critics.

The Frenchman’s form has been under scrutiny under since he arrived at the Camp Nou and is once again in the spotlight after a slow start to the season.

However, Lloris has backed the Barcelona star and explained why he feels he’s being unfairly treated.

“You can’t question a player like Antoine Griezmann because of all he has done and all he has brought to France in recent years,” he said.

“All players have ups and downs. There are times when you succeed more than others. He is currently going through a slightly complicated period in attack, but above all, I see a player who is ready to defend and make the effort for his team-mates. There is no question about that.

“We have to keep our backs to the wall and help him, too. He has our full confidence. We know he has the ability to make the difference in truly important moments for France.

“Let’s be patient but, in any case, France can only be strong if we are all united and not pointing the finger at any individual player.”

Lloris is the latest player to talk about Griezmann over the recent international break.

Manager Didier Deschamps has also spoken about the Barca star and claimed he’s unhappy at the Camp Nou, while Blaise Matuidi has said the 29-year-old is having a “difficult” moment with the Catalan giants.
