Juan Pablo Sorín is impressed with his successor

Juan Pablo Sorín, who was Argentina’s captain for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, has come out in praise of his country’s current captain. Lionel Messi.

“I see Messi more and more like a leader, and more mature,” the former left-back said.

“In Barcelona he had to live a very chaotic moment, but he responded quickly on the pitch. He’s doing very well in the national tea.”

Sorín had a storied career as a player and works as a commentator these days. He played for a slate of famous clubs: Argentinos Juniors, Juventus, River Plate, Cruzeiro, Lazio, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Villarreal, and Hamburger SV.

“Leo transformed his anger into good performances on the field and that is very good for Argentines. He suffered defeats in Bolivia, but he returned to play and win there. It is a strong demonstration of character. We are witnessing a monster,” Sorín said ahead of Argentina’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay tonight.
