But a January deal will be tough

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman admitted once again his side need strengthening in attack after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Huesca.

A goal from Frenkie de Jong was enough to secure all three points, although Barca will feel they should have win by a far bigger margin.

Goals have been an issue this season and left Koeman reiterating his desire to sign a forward in January but also conceding there’s no guarantee a new player will arrive.

“There’s no need to repeat what we said at the start of the season, that we need someone up front to have more competition, more goals and more efficiency, but it depends on a lot of things,” he said.

“Ignoring the last 20 minutes we were good in our play and it wasn’t easy against such a tight defence. We were calm playing on the wings and we scored a great goal.

“In the end we suffered a little because they tried to create something. They crossed in the ball and we defended it well. If you don’t get two or three goals to kill the game you always suffer a bit.”

Barca’s financial difficulties have been well-documented and mean an uncertain January transfer window awaits. Memphis Depay has been regularly linked but Lyon sporting director Juninho recently claimed the club would not be selling their key stars.
